A bike is an oddly-shaped, rigid object — the fit calculator treats it as a bounding box, which is a good starting estimate, but removing wheels or lowering the seat can change its real footprint significantly.

What to consider
Measure with wheels on first
Then check again with the front wheel removed if it doesn't fit — this often changes the limiting dimension entirely.
Handlebars can be turned
Turning the handlebars parallel to the frame reduces width — measure it in the position you'll actually transport it in.
Consider a rack instead
If it's a very tight or impossible fit inside, a roof or hitch rack may be a better option than forcing it into the boot.
Protect your interior
Chains and pedals can mark upholstery — use a blanket or bike bag.

Do I need to remove the front wheel?+
For most hatchbacks and sedans, yes — removing the front wheel (and sometimes lowering the seat) significantly shortens the bike's footprint and is usually the difference between fitting and not fitting.
Will a bike fit without folding down the seats?+
Rarely, for a full-size adult bike. Compare the 'rear seats up' and 'rear seats folded' results above for your specific vehicle.
What about e-bikes?+
E-bikes are typically longer and heavier than standard bikes due to the motor and battery. Weigh it too — check your vehicle's payload capacity if you're carrying more than one.
